Rine Boyer
American, b. 1982
Rine Boyer (b.1982) is an American artist whose work exemplifies how contemporary art and culture are intrinsically connected. Modern culture is increasingly defined by its emerging subcultures. Of these trending subcultural movements, Hipsters stand at the forefront of the artistically aesthetic lifestyle.
Boyer masterfully depicts this trending group of style setters and seekers of authenticity through her bold character portraits. She chose to depict the whole figure rather than just the face to capture posture and stance along with expression.
With theme readily established the viewer is drawn closed and further layers of style and personality are revealed. Figures are adorned with patterns of iconographic symbols of the hipster movement toward things nostalgic.
Patterns of iconography woven through the artworks such as cassette tapes, typewriters, and vintage wall paper pay homage to the hipster’s reveling in, and appreciation for, a time period deemed more authentic. All of the works eventually come together as a whole to form a community of hipster culture.
